VGC Team Builder 2025 — Competitive Doubles (Regulation J)
VGC (Video Game Championships) is Nintendo's official doubles format played at regional and World Championship events. Regulation J (2025) allows one restricted Pokémon per team from a set list including Koraidon, Miraidon, Zacian, Zamazenta, and others. You bring four of your six Pokémon to each battle, so team composition and lead selection are critical. Speed ties, redirection moves (Follow Me, Rage Powder), and Trick Room are defining mechanics. Unlike Smogon singles, VGC rewards synergy over raw power — your team needs to answer both members of any common lead.

Common team archetypes
Restricted + Setter
Pair a restricted Pokémon (Koraidon, Miraidon) with a support setter — Amoonguss for redirection, Incineroar for Intimidate and Fake Out. The restricted mon provides the primary win condition while the support enables it.
Trick Room
Slow down the game with Trick Room, then sweep with high-Attack, low-Speed Pokémon like Hatterene, Torkoal, or Stakataka. Requires two or three Trick Room setters in the back to maintain consistency.
Sun / Rain
Weather teams use Drought or Drizzle to power up Fire or Water moves respectively, often pairing with Chlorophyll or Swift Swim sweepers. Sun teams often feature Koraidon as the restricted slot given its built-in sun ability.
